Aberdein Considine is a partnership made up of 36 Partners. The business is led by Managing Partner Jacqueline Law, who joined the firm in 1993.


Aberdein Considine are recruiting for a senior Residential Property Lawyer to join its expanding team in Edinburgh.

This exciting role involves managing a full, high quality and varied caseload of residential property transactions acting on behalf of individuals, investors, developers and national house builders principally in the purchase and sale of residential property.

Good interpersonal skills would be considered beneficial over and above a minimum of 5 years PQE, to ensure a strong working relationship is established not only with our clients, but with the estate agency personnel and Independent Mortgage Advisers who are based within our offices in Elm Row and Lothian Road, and offer the full range of services whether that be property, legal or financial.

The successful candidate will join our firm at a time when there is exciting expansion across all divisions within our 3 Edinburgh offices.

An ability to work autonomously, using the preferred IT systems and software packages, is required over and above possessing all the skills expected of a competent yet forward thinking Residential Property Lawyer.

There will also be an opportunity to work with the firm’s Partners in further developing the business lines to the mutual benefit of both the successful candidate and the firm.

Key Responsibilities·

  • To provide advice to clients on offers received for their properties and take their instructions
  • To provide advice to clients in relation to what to offer for properties they wish to purchase and taking instructions
  • To guide clients through the sale and purchase process and make the process as straightforward as possible
  • To examine title deeds and report back to clients / lenders on any issues
  • Drafting legal documents
  • To act on behalf of lenders in relation to standard securities
  • Consistently meeting financial budgets / targets
  • Mentoring younger solicitors and assisting in training and development of staff
  • Furthering firm projects and objectives
  • Business Development



  • Minimum 5+ years PQE dependent on position applied for
  • Desire and ability to deliver the highest level of care and service
  • A passion and enthusiasm for conveyancing work and an ambition and drive to build on the success of the branches
  • Adopts responsibility for proactively managing own workload, ensuring quality and responsiveness
  • A team player, keen to share knowledge with less experienced members of the team but also keen to learn from colleagues and continue to build their own knowledge and personally develop themselves
  • A ‘can do’ attitude with a solution driven approach when faced with challenges
  • Ability to ‘change gear’ depending on type of client by tailoring communication and advice appropriately
  • An ambitious, driven, personable individual who has the desire to make a firm contribution


  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Good legal knowledge in their field
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Sound commercial and financial skills, taking responsibility for regular billing and WIP
  • Ability to multi-task effectively whilst meeting deadlines and managing competing priorities
  • Confident in business development or a desire to achieve this with mentoring
  • Experience of delivering a first class client service and managing client relationships
  • Comfortable in identifying opportunities for other firm practice areas and cross-selling of services
