Ruth is a Partner and the Partner-in-Charge of Aberdein Considine’s highly regarded Family Law team.

With over 25 years of exclusive experience in family law, she is known for her empathetic approach, strategic insight, and ability to guide clients through challenging situations with confidence and understanding.

Throughout her career, Ruth has advised on the full spectrum of family law matters, including complex financial provision and child-related issues. She is particularly experienced in high-net-worth cases involving business interests, where her commercial awareness and attention to detail ensure clients receive advice that is both practical and solution-focused.

Accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as both a Specialist in Family Law and a Family Law Mediator, Ruth is also a qualified Collaborative Lawyer. Ruth is an active proponent of alternative methods of dispute resolution in family cases but is also an accomplished litigator, dealing with cases both in the Sheriff Court and the Court of Session.

Ruth is recognised ranked at Band 1 in Chambers and Partners, with a Spotlight in Family Mediation. She is ranked at Tier 1 and as a leading individual in Scottish Family Law in the Legal 500, where she is praised as “very trustworthy, professional and sympathetic” and “able to approach difficult matters with empathy and understanding while using extensive knowledge and experience to achieve as good a solution as possible”.
