Senior Associate (Dispute Resolution)

Our Dispute Resolution team are looking for a Senior Associate to join their dynamic team. This is a full time position based in our office in the heart of Glasgow. The team, led by Euan McSherry, work across our commercial offices in Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Glasgow, Perth, Stirling and Newcastle, and work closely with our legal departments and branch network throughout Scotland. This is a new and exciting opportunity for a motivated candidate to grow and shape our Glasgow offering.

The position will allow the opportunity for career progression for individuals who demonstrate a willingness and ability to maintain good client relationships, work with specialists across the Firm and participate in business development. The successful candidate will enjoy a high level of client and team interaction, personally managing a varied caseload of Dispute Resolution work.

Role

Advising and representing clients, ranging from private individuals and SMEs through to large corporations and FTSE 100 firms, in a variety of court, tribunal, and alternative dispute resolution work. Specialisms to include general commercial litigation, company disputes, breach of contract, commercial real estate litigation, insolvency, professional negligence, and advocacy experience.

An excellent opportunity to work in a supportive, national, team and to collaborate with junior solicitor and commercial colleagues in our Glasgow office in growing our commercial offering to elevate the team’s rankings in the legal directories for litigation, real estate litigation and insolvency work and to progress to Partner.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advising clients on a variety of dispute resolution and litigation matters
  • Managing a varied and heavy caseload
  • Meeting client expectations
  • Negotiating settlements and achieving the best possible outcome for clients
  • Representing clients in court hearings, ADR and settlement meetings
  • Drafting legal documents
  • Meeting fee target consistently
  • Working collaboratively with other members of the department to achieve common goals
  • Promoting the department and the Firm through business development
  • Supervising and mentoring junior team members
  • Making cross referrals to colleagues
  • Generally supporting and promoting the Firm

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

  • LLB, Diploma in Legal Practice

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to meet strict deadlines

KNOWLEDGE

  • Excellent knowledge of dispute resolution and litigation matters
  • Excellent knowledge of Sheriff Court and Court of Session practice and rules
  • Knowledge of alternative dispute resolution forums
