What type of work are you involved in day-to-day at Aberdein Considine?

As an Associate within our Family Law team, no two days are the same. On any given day, I can be representing clients in Court in relation to Guardianship Applications, Interdicts, Child Welfare Hearings or Divorce. When not in Court, I will be advising clients on their legal rights and responsibilities and drafting legal letters and documents.

What valuable advice can you offer a client?

My advice to clients going through a separation would be to find a good way to communicate. That may look very different for each couple - it may be in person, by email, by text or even through a 3^rd party. Often the source of a number of problems is the lack of transparency and sharing of information, leaving the other party to guess what is happening, rather than knowing the truth. The guess is often far worse than the reality!

What is the most rewarding part of your role?

The most rewarding part of my role is being able to help clients see a way forward. I frequently advise clients when they are in a state of crisis and conflict that they have never experienced before. Through providing advice, I am able to help clients consider all options and assist them in devising a plan for the future. For the majority of clients, having an experienced Solicitor talk them through the practicalities and helping them visualise a future when they are in a state of turmoil, can be invaluable.

What do you enjoy doing in your time out with work?

When not in the office, I enjoy keeping active by hiking in the countryside with my golden retriever or signing up for my next whisky tasting!
